The Indonesian Seaweed Association (ARLI) was honored to attend the Fujian Province Sea Opening Cultural Event 2025 held on Dongshan Island, Fujian Province, China. Represented by Safari Azis, Chairman of ARLI, the association was given the privilege to present the Zero Carbon Plaque to the event organizers, recognizing their commitment to hosting a large-scale festival with a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability and carbon reduction.

ARLI’s participation highlights Indonesia’s strategic role, particularly the seaweed industry, as a key partner for China in developing the marine and fisheries sector. The long-standing collaboration between the two countries covers both upstream and downstream development of the seaweed industry, reinforcing seaweed as a sustainable and high-value commodity.

The Fujian Province Sea Opening Cultural Event 2025 is an initiative of the Chinese Government in collaboration with the Fujian Provincial Ocean and Fisheries Bureau. The event will run until December 2025, showcasing a wide range of local seafood and marine- based products, including dried seafood, frozen seafood, Dongshan exported seafood, seafood snacks, and other creative coastal products.

A key highlight of the event is the Fujian Province Cultural Exchange and Marine Fisheries Investment Matchmaking Event, which features the awarding of The National

Marine Awareness Education Base and The Zero Carbon Conference Award. The Zero Carbon Conference Award was officially presented by Safari Azis on behalf of ARLI to the organizers.

“The Zero Carbon Conference Award is a tangible example of how a large-scale event can be held with sustainability at its core. By measuring the carbon footprint of all event activities, including participants and visitors, the initiative provides valuable lessons on the importance of maintaining balance between carbon production and absorption,” said Safari Azis, Chairman of ARLI.

ARLI’s involvement in this event not only strengthens Indonesia–China cooperation in the marine sector but also reaffirms the crucial role of the seaweed industry in supporting the blue economy, energy transition, and achieving the global target of net zero emissions in the future.(*)
